We have kept a close eye on the recent changes to the purchasing rules stated by Whaikaha here, while also reaching out to people and organisations within the disability sector.

After these discussions with various stakeholders, and upon reviewing the updated purchasing rules, we hold the view that Recreate NZ programmes can be purchased via Carer Support and Individualised Funding Respite.

It is our understanding that all Recreate NZ programmes fall within the four criteria as stated below:

One: It helps people live their life or makes their life better

Recreate NZ offers a wide range of adventure, recreational, social and educational programmes, giving young people personal growth opportunities in a safe and fun environment.

Two: It is a disability support

Recreate NZ programmes are specifically designed for young people with disabilities, led by age-appropriate facilitators and volunteers.

Three: It is reasonable and cost-effective

Recreate NZ programmes are reasonable and cost-effective, considering all that goes into a programme including the design a delivery of each programme.

Four: It is not subject to a limit or exclusion

Recreate NZ programmes are primarily for the benefit of the young person with the disability, while parents/carers have their respite.

With the information we currently have, and after discussions with various I.F host organisations, we encourage families to continue utilising Carer Support and Individualised Funding for programme payments.
