Recreate NZ programmes have been designed to meet the needs of participants who have mild to moderate intellectual, physical and/or sensory disabilities.

Before Joining Us
Please check that your young person meets our participant guidelines to ensure the best experience with Recreate NZ.
Participants must fall into one of the three age brackets offered:
- Juniors: ages 10-15
- Youth: ages 15-25
- Young Adults: ages 25-35
- Over 30s (Offered in Auckland and Christchurch)
The following guidelines will be taken into account when determining if a potential participant would benefit from, or be suitable for, Recreate NZ programmes and/or activities: Participants must have
- The ability to take care of, or assist with, their own personal hygiene.
- The desire and ability to participate in and complete the programmes attended.
- The ability to be transported to programme locations.
- Functional communication skills.
- Not demonstrated previous wandering off, violent behaviours, or behaviour that causes harm to participants or staff.
- Be comfortable in group situations and with caregiver ratios not less than 1:3 (resources dictate that Recreate NZ cannot offer 1:1 care).
- Provide at least two referees, if requested.
These guidelines are not ranked in any order. Compatibility of the participants on any programme(s) will be considered and dependent on the activity or activities planned.
New participants will be confirmed following completion of the first programme attended or an initial trial period. Recreate NZ’s decision is final; however, we will be happy to reconsider our decision should circumstances change.
Next up is our registration form below, which can be completed by a parent or caregiver. You will need approximately 20 minutes to complete this form. All this information is important for us to get to know your young person and to ensure we facilitate high-quality and safe programmes.
Once completed, we will organise a phone call and/or a face-to-face meeting to talk about Recreate further.
At any time, should you have any queries or questions regarding the above or Recreate NZ in general, please do not hesitate to contact us. We look forward to connecting with you!
